Quality educators make Sumner School District one of the premiere districts in the South Sound region. Our schools have a well-earned reputation for providing the highest level of service and a commitment to increasing student achievement. State Superintendent of Public Instruction, Dr. Terry Bergeson, says that Sumner School District "delivers a private school education at a public school cost." The District comprises a 38 square mile area in Eastern Pierce County that includes the cities of Bonney Lake, Edgewood, Pacific and Sumner, and unincorporated areas of Pierce County. With eight elementary schools, three middle schools, and two high schools, we serve over 8,300 students from nearly 5,000 families throughout the community.

The Daffodil Festival
The Daffodil Festival organization is comprised of individuals throughout Pierce County, who volunteer their time to put on a Festival each spring. Festival events culminate in April with a Grand Floral Street Parade, which travels through the cities of Tacoma, Puyallup, Sumner and Orting, all in one day. The Festival also represents Pierce County and Washington State with it's traveling float program and participates in other festivals throughout the Pacific Northwest and Canada.

History of Sumner, Washington
In 1853, members of a wagon train crossed over the Cascade Mountains through Naches Pass and settled an agricultural community in a fertile river valley at the junction of the Puyallup River and Stuck Creek (now known as the White River). Pierce County Parks and Recreation provides public parks and recreation services to the residents of unincorporated Pierce County. The Parks Department maintains over 2,000 acres at over 30 park sites, which includes two recreation centers, five boat launch sites, trail corridors, two golf courses, and a large variety of passive and active facilities.

First Time Homebuyer Assistance
Through a federal HUD grant, Housing Programs makes funding available for home ownership of affordable housing. Down Payment Assistance can also be obtained. If you have not owned a home in the last three years, and are at or below HUD's income guidelines , you may qualify for a low interest mortgage loan with monthly payments based on your ability to pay.
Down Payment Assistance Program
The Down Payment Assistance program makes funding available to assist lower income residents purchase affordable housing. Pierce County residents may quailify, if they meet HUD's income guidelines. The maximum sales price for the home needs to be at or below the FHA maximum for Pierce County which is currently $356,250.
